David A. Evans

David A. Evans is currently Managing Director of UniQuest Limited, Australia's highest-profile university-related technology commercialisation company, based at the University of Queensland in Brisbane.  While at UniQuest he has led teams commercialising vaccines, therapeutics, software and ventures in new materials and engineering. As a graduate student at Stanford, he met Doug Engelbart by chance at a Seminar in 1965, got hookeded on bootstrapping and began to visit and then to work with Doug and his team at SRI in the period 1966 to 1969. His main role at AHIRC/ARC was as a sounding-board for ideas and as a facilitator in management and community initiatives.

After returning to Australia (as Australians mostly do) and prior to joining UniQuest in 1994, Dr Evans worked as a management consultant in Australia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea; was a member of the Australian Prime Minister's Think Tank; ran his own consultancy specialised in stategy and industry development planning covering 16 countries in the Asia-Pcific region; and developed this consultancy into a boutique seed-stage management and investment company starting up, facilitating and nurturing new companies based on innovative Australian technology across the range of biotechnology, IT&T, and the physical sciences and engineering. 

Since 1978 he has been responsible for starting up 10 such companies and is currently Chairman of Geophysical Technology Limited, commercialising sub-surface mapping, landmine and unexploded ordnance detection systems, and Chairman of Toroidal Technology Pty Ltd, commercilising a revolutionary new rotary engine. 

Dr Evans holds a BE in Engineering from the University of New South Wales and a MS in Engineering Economic Planning an AM in Economics and a PhD in Engineering from Stanford University.  He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.
