Ted Nelson is a software designer whose designs have been considered too radical because he insisted on departing from the paper model of enclosure, sequence, hierarchy, rectangularity. (The term "hypertext," which he coined in the early sixties, has ironically become associated with the paper-like forms of the World Wide Web.) The continuing Project Xanadu, which he heads, has as its goal a deeper form of hypertext and publishing than those now available. He has published five books and many articles. He is presently Visiting Professor at Keio University in Japan and the University of Southampton in England. |
